Cooney Creek Farm is a 250 acre family farm nestled in the hills of Lawrence County, Ohio. We are located in Wheelersburg, Ohio, 100 miles south of Columbus; 30 miles from Huntington, WV; 20 miles from Ashland, KY. The name comes from the largest stream going through the farm.

Cooney Creek is the outlet for 27,000 acres of National Forest land that borders us on three sides. The land has been farmed since the early 1700s to produce meat, dairy, fruit and crops for local consumption. Corn and soybean, beef, pork and turkeys were the main products until Jim and Cindy Yancy purchased the land in 1996 for Quarter Horses and free range chickens. The years of creating more grassland and developing mountain springs to supply stock have seen the operation focus on holistic, sustainable practices.

We now have a few good horses who graze along with our beef herd. Red Devon genetics have been used since the first cow was AI’d by Cindy and are the basis for our gentle, thrifty cattle. Our herd is now Red Devon influenced and registered Red Devon. Hair sheep were introduced this year and will eventually be integrated as part of our multi-species grazing plan. Each year we get closer to our goal of year round grazing. Our stock thrive on natural forages and are supplemented only with hay and minerals. Only emergent care medicines are used to treat injury. We are not certified organic but follow many organic practices. We do embrace sustainable and holistic principles and have where selected as Outstanding NRCS Cooperators of the year.

Processing is done at a USDA facility and beef is dry aged for at least 14 days, cut to customer order, clear vacuum-wrapped and quick frozen. We sell by the cut, halves and whole beef.Beef consistently grades at high select to low choice, providing wonderful eating. Discover for yourself what beef was like prior to industrialization.

Farm visits are welcome with an appointment. We will be granting hunting leases in the future for deer, turkey. Call to place your order or for more information.

We use registered Dexter cattle and Dexter/Angus cross. Our sheep are Katahdin sheep. We grow and raise our animals with the biodynamic methods. Hillyrock Farm is a small family farm that direct-markets its natural, grass finished beef in the form of:

  • “Hillyrock Steerburger” ground beef of the whole animal, including 60% of the prime cuts, and
  • Freezer Beef: whole, side and split side of beef that families store in their freezer for year-round meals.

Hillyrock Farm is operated by Bob and Diane Browning with support and guidance from master farmer and neighbor, Ralph Warren, Jr. Hillyrock is located in a savannah in the Greenbrier Valley—the high and lush valley in the Allegheny Mountain range of West Virginia—on grassland that is rich in minerals and fed with a mountain spring. The farm has been in operation for over 200 years and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Our farm practices for grass finishing cattle rely on long-standing best practices as well as on adaption to current and tested agricultural science; fortunately the two most often are the same. Our cattle are free of growth hormones, antibiotics and are raised and fattened on grass. We process our meat at a family run abattoir that is WV Dept. of Agriculture and USDA inspected.

We make weekly deliveries to Charleston, May-October, and bi-weekly deliveries November-April.

Hillyrock Farm, Bob and Diane Browning, HC 34, Box 353 Savannah Lane, Lewisburg WV  24901. (304) 497-2748.

We sell mainly sides and whole beef and occasionally lean hamburger.

Our beef is processed in a local, state-inspected facility. The beef is aged 14 days, cut to customer specifications, vacuum sealed, and then frozen.

Your beef order can be picked up at the processor or our farm, or can be delivered within a 150-mile radius for a fee.

Misty Mountain Farm is 160 acres of rolling hills in Calhoun County, WV. Purchased as a 100-year-old rundown homestead, we are slowly restoring our land naturally. Through rotational grazing of our Dexter cattle, goats, and pastured chickens and turkeys, we hope to bring balance and fertility back to our pastures.

Broilers are available beginning in June and until early fall. A limited number of turkeys are raised for Thanksgiving. Though we are still in the herd building stage for our Dexter cattle, grass fed beef and registered stock is occasionally available.

Since we are a small and still growing farm, we advise you to call or e-mail to see what we have currently available, or to schedule a visit. We invite you to come grow with us!

Mon Valley Farms, LLC is a small group of family farmers that have come together to sell all natural beef from the Mon River Valley area. We have chosen not to use any added growth-stimulating hormones or antibiotics, so you and your family can enjoy beef that is free from chemical residues.

Our livestock are pasture-raised on nutritious grasses, hay, and their mother's milk, and harvested at a younger "petite" age. This allows you to enjoy smaller, high quality cuts that are naturally lower in fat. Our beef is processed in a local USDA inspected plant and comes to you quick-frozen and vacuum-packed in heavy plastic to ensure your dining pleasure while at the same time having an excellent storage life.

We are also proud that we have adopted low impact, sustainable farming practices—like streamside fencing and rotational grazing. While Mon Valley Farms, LLC is raising top quality beef, we are also raising a more positive outlook for farm families who want to maintain their rural life style and economic viability.

Sarver Heritage Farm was established in 1951 on 250 acres of beautiful rolling hills in the Organ Cave area of WV. Current stewards Robert & Jewell Doering are the third generation of Sarvers to raise beef cattle on this land. Our Farmland Preservation Easement assures we won't be the last.

Our cattle are born, raised and finished here. We can tell you how each of our animals have spent their entire lives. They eat only grass, either from pasture or our own grass hay. We practice rotational grazing to maintain fertile, lush pastures, working closely with USDA and NRCS to assure the health of the land as well as the cattle.

We treat our cattle humanely and with respect. Many actually enjoy (demand) a good scratching when we check on them daily. With pastures ranging from 10 to 50 acres, they have plenty of room to move about and do what they do best. They receive no hormones, no fed antibiotics nor any supplement other than access to free choice trace mineral salt. They are harvested at 18 to 29 months of age, providing tender and full flavored beef.

Our goal is to produce the highest quality natural beef while being competitive with the grocer's meat counter prices. We feel that natural, healthy, safe food should cost less when purchased directly from the farmer.

Our beef is processed at a small, family-owned USDA certified and Animal Welfare Approved facility, where it is dry aged for 21 days before being cut, vacuum packed and frozen.

We sell individual cuts, split sides, sides and whole beef. Our steaks are cut 1.5" thick; cuts and ground beef are available at the farm year 'round.  We prefer to sell locally and offer free delivery (up to 50 miles on split sides or more).

Swift Level's rolling 152 acres are located just outside of Lewisburg in Greenbrier County. Family farming in southern WV since 1843, we have a love of land and animals.

Our Angus steers are born "across the fence" on our neighbor's farm where we watch them grow and play with their herd on free pasture grazing and hay. They come "through the gate" to us at 10–12 months of age where we finish them on the same familiar grasses until they have naturally matured to their individual finished weight, between 20–27 months. The steers move about freely on well managed pastures, have abundant flowing clean spring water, and are supplemented only with organic kelp and necessary supported minerals for balanced health. Thoughtful and wise animal husbandry practices insure our animals have the best life we can offer them. We are in compliance with a USDA/NRCS organic land certification program. All streams, springs and woodlands are protected.

We use a small, family run USDA, Animal Welfare Approved abattoir. It is vitally important to us that slaughter is done thoughtfully and carefully. Our beef dry-hangs for a minimum of 30 days. All packaging is vacuum sealed. Tag numbers are imprinted to trace each package of beef from birth to consumer. This delicious beef sells by the cut, no order too small or too large!  We process year round and ship direct all over the country.

To order: Please visit our website for cut and price listing, updated weekly
