A & B Homecoming Beef LLC is located one-and-a-half miles south of Leeton, MO. The Varner Family has been raising cattle for over 20 years.

Our cattle are raised on our 80-acre farm from our rotationally grazed pastures on grass only—with no grain ever. We stockpile 40 acres of grass to feed in the winter and also feed some hay and alfalfa which we purchase from a neighbor.

We use a North Devon bull bought from Gerald Fry at Rosebud, Arkansas. Our cows are 1/2 Angus and 1/2 Gelbvich. Our herd is 100% home raised, bred and born.

Our cattle are 1 1/2 to 2 years old when processed at Hetherington Meats, LLC and are dry-aged approximately two weeks. They have had no growth hormones, antibiotics or pesticides used on them.

Glenn is retiring in April 2012 and starting in May we will be selling frozen beef in the KC area, Brookside Market on Saturday and The City Market on Sunday. Please take time to visit our website or give us a call.

Alger Family Farm wants to provide people with healthy food as affordably as we can. Currently, we offer free-range eggs, pastured chickens and turkeys, and grass finished beef and lamb.

Our free-range laying hens sleep in a moveable hoophouse and are protected on 1/2 an acre by an electric woven fence which we move periodically as needed. We feed them a 100% certified organic feed ration. They are allowed out during the day so they can eat all the bugs and plant material that they desire. Our meat chickens and turkeys start out right on pasture in a floorless pen. We have a hover with a heat lamp in the pen with them so that they can run under to get warm and they also run around pecking the ground for bugs and vegetation from their very first day of life. At this stage we move them as needed. At two to three weeks, they no longer need the heat lamp and they then begin to get moved through our pasture daily. In addition to the bugs and vegetation, we feed them a 100% certified organic feed ration. Our moveable pens keep them safe from possums, raccoons, hawks and other predators while still allowing them fresh air, sunshine and access to the bugs and vegetation they need. When they are around seven weeks old, they are ready to butcher.

Our lamb and beef is 100% pasture finished and the animals only eat grass, other plants, salt and a high quality kelp & mineral supplement. We never give them hormones, antibiotics or chemical wormers. We spray no chemicals on our pastures.

Our family does all that we can to ensure the highest quality possible; one of the best ways we have found is through achieving strict certification. We are Certified 100% GrassFed by the American Grassfed Association, Certified for high animal welfare by Animal Welfare Approved, and USDA Certified Organic Pastures by One Cert.

Our cattle are raised using intensive rotational grazing techniques—free of pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones, and antibiotics. We have long been advocates of this management protocol due to its benefits to the animal, the environment, and to us as consumers of a healthier product.

We market via our internet site where we ship via both Fed Ex and UPS. You can also find our meat in Whole Foods, select Schnucks Markets and through Fair Shares. We welcome customers to pick up their beef at our grass farm in Doniphan, MO, or our processing plant located in Jackson, MO—just tell us when you are coming. American Pasturage, Inc. supplies meat from livestock raised on grass pastures year round. During inclement weather, the animals receive grass hay right in the pasture. The Elysian Veal calves are left with the cow in the pasture from birth to market. Our farm uses no chemicals, pharmaceuticals, grains, or blended feeds in production of our meat animals.

A supply of Elysian Veal, Pasture Purefect Beef, and lamb is available at most times right from our farm. The USDA-inspected meat is vacuum-packed and frozen. Shipments can be made to any location in the U.S. The meat can also be found at the Greater Springfield Farmers' Market on Saturdays from mid-April to the end of October.

The veal, beef, and lamb are available in popular retail cuts. We try and maintain a year around stock of whole ground beef that runs 90% lean or better.

Angel Acres Farm, LLC, is home to grass fed, grass finished Belted Galloway beef cattle.

This gentle Scottish breed is handled in the most humane manner, grazing the paddocks among the hills and oaks of middle Missouri. During weaning, while we walk among the calves, they are tamed and become familiar with our voices and the barnyard atmosphere. Every effort is made to keep them healthy, preventing the need for the use of medications. No hormones are implanted.

After 20-26 months of grazing (slow food indeed) the steers are processed. Inspected, frozen beef is marketed at near-by cities through farmer’s markets, individuals, and at small grocers and select restaurants. Shipping is possible. It is the delight of all at Angel Acres Farm to be able to share this wonderful gift of nature with our community.

C4 Farms specializes in nutrient dense and delicious grass fed meats and milk. We offer 100% grass fed, grass finished beef and lamb. We also have a small herd of 100% grass fed jersey cows that are milked by hand.

C4 has been raising beef cattle for four generations and in the more recent past incorporated sheep and jersey milk cows to help our ranches become more sustainable. We are located in the heart of cattle country in west central Missouri, halfway between Kansas City and Springfield. You can view our philosophies and other important information at www.c4farmsmo.com.

The 100% grass fed, grass finished meats are available in wholes, halves or split sides (lambs available in wholes and halves only). We sell our delicious grass fed meats year around on a first come, first served basis followed by a waiting list. Some local delivery is available, but most meat sales will have to be picked up at the meat store.

Our grass fed and raw products are not only healthy for our consumers, but are healing the land they are raised on as well. We use a management approach known as holistic management. When holistic management is implemented properly it heals the soil, plants, the animals that graze those plants and finally our consumers! This ensures the most nutrient dense grass possible to our livestock, and the most healthful, nutrient dense, delicious, grass fed meats to our consumers!

Our animals are never in confinement, never fed grain of any kind, never given any antibiotics, dewormer, vaccinations, hormones or steroids of any kind. C4 cows, calves, sheep and lambs roam free with the other C4 inhabitants, whitetail deer, turkey and quail.

We want you to know that we are your source for “Better Than Organic” meat and milk! We invite you to come see how your food is produced.

At Cedar Cove Farm, we believe in raising all natural, hormone and antibiotic free animals. We use no additives or preservatives in our broiler chickens or meat rabbits. Our broilers are available in June/July and again in September/October. We work in a direct market basis, but will take orders.

The broilers are raised on grass beginning at the third week of life in the protection of a "chicken tractor." The tractor is moved to fresh grass twice daily. They are fed a supplement of various grains mixed with Fertrell's Poultry Nutribalancer to ensure proper trace minerals and optimal health. We also offer eggs from free-range hens that thrive on a diet of grass and bugs and whatever they can find. They sleep in permanent buildings and are allowed to roam during the day.

Our rabbits are fed alfalfa pellets and supplemented with fresh cut grass or hay. The rabbits are available as pets or meat, already packaged. They are available in spring and fall, please call for pricing and availability.

Cedar Cove Farm is also a Fertrell dealer and we believe in returning to the ground what we take out of it. This is accomplished through Fertrell's natural and organic certifiable soil enhancing products and fertilizers, but mostly our continued education in the area of pasture management. We offer various food supplements for the health of your animals and, ultimately, you.

We believe in supporting local agriculture and staying small, building relationships with our customers. We are always learning and seeking advice with a goal of having quality pasture, land and animals.

Circle B Ranch will add supplements to the animals' diet which is a natural corn-soybean based food with the necessary mineral and vitamins. We do not use any hormones, growth stimulants or meat by products.

We will have Berkshire pork available in the fall. We are going through the Certified Humane audit now.

Covered–L Farms has been raising grass-fed beef since 1992 in an environmentally friendly manner by using no antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones or grain (but we’re not organic, just close). We really enjoy providing flavorful, healthy, nutritious clean beef to forward-thinking mid-Missouri customers.

Our beeves are 100% grass-fed: they graze the best pastures we can provide throughout the year, along with excellent quality hay when required. To insure you receive the quality you expect, we test a small portion of each beeve. Anything not meeting our standards becomes ground beef so only the best is available for our customers. And our prices for 100% grass-fed beef beat everyone in mid-MO and perhaps in the entire state.

Halves, split halves and whole beeves are available year around. Individual USDA-inspected cuts are available in Columbia MO at both Clovers Natural Foods stores and at the West Broadway (only) HyVee location, as well as by appointment at the farm. Delivery by arrangement in the local area, but, sorry, we do not ship.

Gladhour Farm is a family farm in north central Missouri. The farming plan is sustainable agriculture: row crops are certified organic; veal and beef are raised naturally on cow's milk and forage with no added hormones or subtherapeutic antibiotics; and heritage breeds (Irish Dexter Cattle and Babydoll Southdown Sheep) are raised for breeding stock and enjoyment.

Historic landmarks, roadways, equipment, buildings, and plants are valued to give visitors glimpses of times gone by and current opportunities for simplicity, and are a highlight on the farm. A pair of Dexter oxen are currently in training (a new adventure). When you arrange to pick up your meat order, you can make a visit and watch our progress!

Gladhour Farm’s natural beef and veal come from pure Dexters and Dexter crosses, so the cuts are smaller than typical. Some say the tenderness and flavor are subtly special and unusually delightful. Shipping for GF meats may become a reality in the future. For now, totally grass-finished beef and natural veal can be ordered ahead for a completely custom-done whole-animal order, or can be bought by the half or sample package by contacting GF with your order.

The meat is USDA-inspected, dry-aged, packaged and frozen. Pick up is done by arranging to meet at the locker plant. With your GF meat purchase, you are helping to sustain a farming community by supporting both a small, local, family-run meat processing business and Gladhour Farm family farm.

Grand View Pastures started as a family passion, a passion to raise our own food in the healthiest way we can, with the least impact on mother earth. We wanted to know how our food is raised, what it was fed, where did their water come from, and what medicine, drugs or hormones did it consume during its life?

Not only did we want to know everything about our food, but we wanted to control the whole process, so we bought a ranch in the heart of the Missouri Ozark—clean air, fresh water and lush pastures!

We started Grand View Pastures for ourselves and now have extra grass fed, young (10–14 month old) Angus beef cattle we can sell to you. All the cattle are raised using a rotational grazing method, NO HORMONES, no cramped feed lots, no antibiotics, no stress, no GMO feeds!

We are not in the meat business!

The Johnson Family wants to sell you a live animal (1/2 and 1/4 ownerships are also available.) We will give you a list of USDA certified butchers in our area where you can make your own arrangements for dry aging, butchering and shipping, no matter where you live. I will send you a beef chart and help you to study up on your cuts.

We have 25 young beef cattle that we will sell this year and suggest that they be butchered anytime after August 2009 at about 600 to 700 pounds.

Call us and let us help you stock your freezer with grass fed young beef.

Grand View Pastures in located in Eunice, Missouri close to Houston, Rolla, Cabool and West Plains.

Grazeland Farms produces pasture raised eggs on 230 acres near Jamesport, Missouri. Our hens are raised cage-free and get fresh pasture every day. The mobile hen houses are moved by our Amish employees and a team of draft horses.

We utilize farming practices that are very similar to those of Joel Salatin and Polyface Farms. Joel's Feathernet and Eggmobile systems have been a great inspiration to us, and we have tried to apply many of his ideas to our farm.

Our goal is to expand pasture egg production to a larger scale than has been done before, so more people can enjoy the wonderful, healthy eggs that are produced in this system.

We welcome vistors to the farm on Monday-Friday. We love for our customers to see how we raise the chickens and the eggs.

Eggs are sold by the dozen on the farm and at a few local stores. Eggs should be available in some Kansas City supermarkets in Fall 2008.

Green Hills Harvest produces organic milk from Jersey-cross cows. Owners Kerry and Barb Buchmayer say that a few customers have wondered if their skim and 2% milk is mislabeled because it tastes so creamy.

The Buchmayers feed their cows a limited amount of organic grain to supplement the fresh pasture. (The cows get about 1/3 to 1/2 as much grain as is typically fed in a standard dairy.) The milk is hormone and pesticide free. Green Hills Harvest milk products will soon be available in select stores in the Kansas City area.

Greenwood Farms produces chemical-free, confinement-free Grade A Raw Jersey Milk, Raw Milk Artisan Cheeses, Grassfed Beef, Pasture-Raised, Berkshire Pork, and Pasture-Raised Chicken.

Our Grade A Raw milk comes from Jersey cows that live confinement-free on lush pasture year-round. We raise our beef cattle on pasture planted with specially selected annual grasses, giving our beef gourmet-quality flavor. Our chickens grow quickly eating fresh grass in their spacious hoop houses and our Berkshire pigs roam in their spacious pasture, dining on grass, corn, and acorns during the fall.

Greenwood Farms "Jersey Girl" Raw Milk is state inspected, bottled on site, and sold in recyclable plastic one-gallon jugs. Our Raw Milk Artisan Cheeses are made from our amazing raw milk. Currently we are featuring Alpenglow Cheese, an Alpine cheese with a flavor reminiscent of gruyere or beaufort, and Harvest Moon Cheese, a rich creamy cheese inspired by the delectable taste of Dutch Gouda.

Greenwood Farms Beef and Pork are sold as individual cuts and our Pasture-Raised Chickens are sold whole or in packages of breasts, legs and thighs, or wings. All of our meats are government inspected, vacuum sealed, and fresh-frozen. All of our meat, eggs, and dairy products are available via our weekly deliveries to Rolla and St. Louis. Visit our website for all the details.

Greenwood Farms is a family business, owned and operated by Steve and Holly Atkinson, their daughter Julie, son David, and daughter-in-law Kindra, son Rob and daughter-in-law Sine. We are committed to producing milk and meats that are drug-free, raised cruelty-free, are of superior nutritional value, and have a flavor that surpasses that of any commercially raised meats or dairy products available today.

Harmony Farms consists primarily of two family farms raising rotationally grazed, grass fed, grass finished beef with no antibiotics, no growth hormones and no grain.

Cattle are moved to new paddocks daily except for short periods in the winter when grass is scarce. During this time our production method varies from the Eatwild standards in that we confine them in paddocks and supplement their winter diet with small amounts of soy hull pellets.

Our beef is packaged under USDA inspection and sold in health food stores such as Nature's Pantry in Independence, Missouri and in many Kansas City area Hy-Vee stores.

We have an e-commerce website in which we sell beef quarters, beef bundles and pork bundles.

Healthy Tasty Beef is raised at Walnut Grove Farm, which has been in the family since 1935. Our grass-fed, grass-finished operation sells only beef born and raised on these acres in NW Arkansas. We offer overnight shipping by ground to the Kansas City, Springfield and Joplin areas.

Our pure-bred Hereford cattle are grazed in pastures of mixed grass. The summer pastures are primarily Bermuda grass, White Clover, Red Clover and Lespedeza. Late winter and spring find the cattle feeding on Annual Rye Grass, Wheat and Fescue. Cattle being prepared for harvest in the winter time are supplemented with top quality alfalfa hay. We use managed intensive grazing and never graze forage older than second stage growth. Cattle drink clear fresh water from tanks in their pastures, not water from ponds they've been standing in.

Our beef is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene, vitamin E and CLA. They are raised free of stress. No grains, hormones, or antibiotics are used in producing this meat for you. Our farming methods are environmentally friendly. No pesticides are used on our pastures. Meat is USDA certified, vacuum sealed and flash frozen. The great flavor is rich and robust.

We invite you to visit our website to check out our offerings.

At Huggins Family Farm our goal is to provide the highest quality meat and eggs possible while protecting and preserving both livestock and the environment. We offer free-ranging chicken eggs.

Our hens and their rooster free range during daylight hours and are safely sheltered in their permanent coop at night. They are given a small amount of scratch grains that we personally hand blend. These are given exclusively at night to ensure they go to roost with a full crop. Their water has an added copper supplement which keeps them healthy and their water clean. We frequently freshen their coop with new sawn oak sawdust form a local provider. Their pastures are shared with Red polled cattle in our custom rotational grazing system. We manage the pastures twice a day to keep forage healthy and brix levels high. This provides the highest standards of animal health.

We will have pastured poultry available in June, but we expect to sell out early this year. We will have a second harvest of pastured poultry available in October. We are also planning to offer a select few heritage breed Bourbon Red turkeys for Thanksgiving. We will have Turkeys from 9 lbs to 25 lbs.

We plan to offer the first grass fed and finished beef in about 18 months (Fall 2012) or whenever we deem the first steers to be finished.

We invite all our friends to come visit our farm and see our animals in person. The best way to know you are getting healthy food is to see it thriving in its environment. Please call to schedule visits. We will be participating in the Mt. Vernon Farmers Market on Saturday mornings beginning this spring. We accept Paypal.

Mitts Family Naturals. Are you concerned with the industrialization of our food supply? Troubled by the increasing reports of food borne illness, food allergies and chronic disease? Are you ready to "opt-out" of the chemically laden, over processed, genetically modified food chain? If so, "opt-out" with us at Mitts Family Naturals, where we follow nature's patterns to provide nourishing products for your family.

We are growers of pastured chickens, rabbits and eggs. Our chickens and rabbits are housed in portable pens that are moved daily. This reduces disease and parasites, so antibiotics are not needed. The chickens and rabbits are allowed constant access to green pastures and sunshine increasing the nutritional value of the meat.

All butchering is done on the farm in a clean open air environment. No chemicals are used in processing. All "waste" from butchering is composted.

Our laying hens are allowed free roaming from sun-up to sun-down. They forage on the farm for what chickens were meant to eat. In return they give us great tasting eggs.

If you are interested in all natural, nutritious and tasty locally raised products, call us at Mitts Family Naturals: "Where the Chickens Don't have Nuggets or Fingers."

The Old Homestead Farm in Washington, Missouri (40 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri) is a small, family-owned farm where the chickens are allowed to roam the pasture, the woods, the creeks, etc. from sun up till sun down eating all the grass, weeds, bugs, and grains available to them. You will see the difference in our eggs in the nearly orange egg yolk and a richer more flavorful taste. Studies continue to confirm the health benefits of eating ANY grassfed animal/products (including chicken eggs). You can view a more recent study on the Mother Earth News website.

We also have available a wonderfully, handcrafted goat milk/olive oil soap bar. All our soaps are made with 50% olive oil which is very healing and nourishing to skin along with goat's milk (from one of our resident nubians, Cindy) which is moisturizing and gentle to skin. By combining these ingredients, along with coconut oil, palm oil, and shea butter, we have an extremely gentle and nourishing soap bar. No colorants or artificial preservatives are used. The soaps have a warm, carmel color due to the olive oil and goat milk.

If you are near the St. Louis area, you can purchase our eggs at the Sappington Farmers Market on Watson Road, Freddies Market on Big Bend in Webster Groves, and Local Harvest Grocery on Morgan Ford Road near Tower Grove park. You can also purchase our soaps at the Local Harvest Store.

Pasture Nectar Farm and Mercantile is located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. Our primary product is grass. Our grass gets harvested by some lucky cows and chickens, and they turn it into lots of delectable things – the nectar: milk, cream, eggs, meat.

Our Shorthorn cows produce excellent meat, milk and cream for your family. They eat only fresh grass and clover from our rotated chemical-free pastures during the growing season, and hay in the winter—never steroids, hormones, or processed feeds, no animal by-products. Our meat animals get no grain for your health and theirs.

Raw milk is sold in gallon-sized plastic jugs. You are welcome to visit our squeaky-clean dairy parlor anytime.

We butcher June and October while cattle are on green pasture for sweeter meat, then dry-age for 2 to 3 weeks. You can buy individual cuts any time (while quantities last) or order by the whole, half, or quarter beef. Please order early to make sure you get some.

Our free-range, out-on-the-pasture hens turn our grass and bugs into delicious, omega-3 eggs.

Pasture-Raised Poultry offers broiler chickens raised in portable cages on pasture. The birds are fed organic grain when available. The Ramers also have a limited supply of pasture-raised beef and will raise other animals (such as pigs, turkeys, and rabbits) on request.

Peace Valley Poultry raises field-grazed chicken, turkey and beef. In 1996 our family began growing wholesome range-raised poultry. We are still a small family farm committed to providing high-quality, healthy meat in a manner that respects God's creation.

Our chickens are treated carefully and naturally from day one. The ration we feed them is one we mix from whole grains, vitamins and minerals, and does NOT contain Genetically Modified ingredients or any medications. The pasture they are raised on is pesticide-free/herbicide-free and is managed holistically with rotationally grazed cattle, although it is not certified organic. The chickens range freely from the hoop house shelters that we pasture them from. These shelters are moved to fresh grass daily to insure healthy birds and pastures. At processing time we continue our practice of careful handling to provide high-quality fresh chicken. The end result is a truly tasty bird; "Like chicken used to taste," as many of our customers say. The chicken is sold either whole, split (in half), cut-up, or in packages of individual parts.

In November we sell turkeys that are raised the same way the chickens are. We have heard many reports from satisfied customers who don't want anything but field-grazed turkeys now that they have tried one. The flavor difference is clear. Fresh turkeys are available on the farm and at delivery locations before Thanksgiving.

We sell our poultry from our farm and also in Springfield, Missouri and Rolla, Missouri; as well as several other areas in southeast Missouri.

Our grass-finished beef is grown in the same manner as our other meat, carefully and conscientiously. At this time we are offering half or whole beeves, not individual cuts.

Feel free to visit our website to see photos and learn more about our farm.

Prairie Ridge Farms is located in the beautiful rolling hills in southern Iowa, less than a mile from the Missouri border. We have a certified organic dairy farm and direct market our grassfed beef, lamb, and pastured pork. All of our animals are 100% grassfed with the exception of our hogs, which are fed small grains and milk and have access to fresh grass.

Our animals are given a fresh smorgasbord of forages at least once a day and often 2-3 times a day. Our grazing management practices provide high soil fertility, and highly mineralized soil. We believe these high quality forages result in superior quality food.

We sell all of our meat by the individual cut, whole, half, or bundles. You can purchase our products at our Farmers Markets: Des Moines, IA and Kirksville, MO; from Buying Clubs in Des Moines, IA and Kirksville, MO; and always on our farm, or we can arrange for shipping.

Pure Pasture Beef. On our five-generation family farm of rolling Missouri hills, tree-shaded pastures, spring-fed ponds, waterfalls, and a winding stretch of the Little Sac River, we raise all-natural 100% grass and clover-fed, pasture-finished beef cattle from a closed herd of original Black Angus stock started here 30 years ago. Those years of experience have honed to perfection a premium, natural beef (free of antibiotics, hormones, and animal by-products) that we're pleased to offer as top of the line.

Pure Pasture Beef is for people with the highest standards of quality and safety, who believe that informed food choices can enhance their physical well-being and enrich their everyday lives. Pure Pasture Beef is processed locally in a USDA Missouri certified organic facility, going from farm to table.

Practicing a sustainable approach to cattle management and land use here in the heart of Ozark Mountain foothills country, we rotate our cattle from one pasture to the next on a regular basis so they're grazing on clean, fresh grass (along with roaming bands of white-tailed deer and wild turkey). We cut and bale our own red clover, alfalfa, orchard grass and brome that we feed as hay in the winter; we feed the salt and minerals; we monitor all animal health; we check the water; we wean the babies. We do it all ourselves. Nothing gets between us and our cattle.

A farmer his whole life, Jim practiced law for thirty years to help support the cattle habit he's had since being born into a dairy family over fifty years ago. As President and CEO of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, Jim writes and speaks frequently about agricultural issues here and abroad. Nancy, a Seattle transplant and former college English teacher, supervises the daily farm operations, takes care of the kids, and raises Missouri Fox Trotting horses.

Savor the flavor of excellence—call or e-mail for information about ordering our beef by the eighth, quarter, half, or whole. We ship as economically as possible by Fed Ex or UPS.

Roth's Greener Pastures LLC of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri produces wholesome meat and eggs that are raised naturally. We focus on the animal's quality of life and are rewarded with a quality product. We practice sustainable agricultural practices with minimal off-farm inputs, composting all processing by-products for use as fertilizer. We do not use chemical fertilizer, herbicides or pesticides on our pasture. None of our animals are given hormones, antibiotics, or medicated feed or water. Fresh air, plenty of green pasture and sunshine promote a healthy, stress-free lifestyle. Spilled feed, water, and manure are spread across the land, creating Roth's Greener Pastures.

Our chickens are raised free range and housed in portable huts at night that are rotated in the pasture. Chickens are humanely processed on the farm and aged before being vacuum packed and frozen. Organic chicken can be raised by special request.

Our pork is raised on pasture in movable pens and frequently rotated to fresh grass. They are fed commercial grain without additives and garden vegetables that are over produced. They are processed in a USDA inspected facility.

Our grass fed beef is raised on pastures rich in fescue, bluegrass and legumes. In the winter they are fed quality hay from a local farmer and never receive any grain. They are harvested when the grass is tender in the late spring and late fall. They are processed in a USDA inspected facility.

We encourage you to buy your food directly from a local farmer and invest your food dollar in a family farm rather than a grocery chain or a meat packing conglomerate. Call or e-mail us to ask questions or place an order.

Sassafras Valley Farm raises free-range Embden geese and Rouen ducks on our family farm in Gasconade County, Missouri.

We practice Low Impact Sustainable Agriculture (LISA) to raise geese and ducks in a traditional and environmentally sensitive fashion. We maintain a population density of less than 36 birds per acre to provide them with continuous access to fresh pasture and water. Our pastures have been carefully planted with a mixture of grasses and other plants that reflect the traditional diet of domesticated geese and ducks in harmony with the requirements of the local microclimate. Our birds are raised in a chemical free, pesticide free, hormone free environment.

Unfortunately, in the U.S., availability of dressed geese and ducks is limited due to the relative difficulty of raising them in high density confinement. Our geese and ducks are raised on free-range and natural pasture in the same traditional way that domesticated waterfowl have been raised since their original descent from their wild forbears.

Predator control (typically coyotes, feral dogs, and hawks) is accomplished through the efforts of several Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs rather than by trapping, poisoning, or shooting.

Rouen ducks are a slower maturing heritage breed with plumage similar to Mallards. They are considerably smaller than the more common Pekin ducks sold through most market outlets, and are less greasy as well as superior in flavor.

Embden geese are the traditional, large white geese familiar from pictures and folklore. Our Embdens are very low in fat due to their natural diet and healthy, outdoor living conditions.

Our geese and ducks are humanely processed in a USDA certified facility and available for purchase and shipment frozen via UPS 2nd Day Air throughout the U.S. Sassafras Valley Farm geese and ducks are also available through several local outlets in the Hermann and Saint Louis Missouri area. Consult our website for details.

Sassafras Valley Farm is proud to be certified by the prestigious Animal Welfare Approved organization.

SteelMeadow Farm is located between Ava and Mansfield, about an hour east of Springfield. In the rolling Ozark hills, we live in a lovely green valley nestled between clover-rich fields where we raise grass-fed Irish Dexter beef cattle and Spanish-Kiko meat goats.

The Irish Dexters are a dual purpose cattle (triple purpose if you include using them as oxen) and are registered. Dexters may be purchased as breeding stock or steers-on-the-hoof when available. Their smaller size makes them the perfect choice for the family freezer, and their gentle, docile nature makes them wonderful additions to the farm as well.

Our meat goats are of two Spanish lines with hearty Kiko influence. The goats grow quickly, are a nice size and thrive by clearing woods, controlling and removing weeds and generally working hard on our farm. We will sell some does and bucks for your own breeding stock, or sell young bucklings-on-the-hoof for delicious cabrito. There are many local processors available for your convenience.

We do not use routine antibiotics, stimulants or growth hormones. Our animals are given free-choice organic kelp meal and salt to round out their pasture/forage-based diet. In the winter we feed our animals hay cut from our own fields, fertilized only by the animals themselves. Please see our website or call us for more information. If you come and visit our farm we will probably send you home with a dozen eggs from our prolific yard hens!

Three Spring Farms is a new venture in 2011 by Andrew Bachmann, Jacob Bachmann and Bryan Meyers. The Bachmann brothers have loads of knowledge and experience: they are 4th generation farmers in the neighborhood with recent degrees in Agriculture from Missou. Meyers is a recent convert after an inspiring farm experience a few decades ago. Together they are raising grassfed beef and taking steps to protect and heal the farmland that they are working.

The Bachmanns have added to their previous knowledge by attending a grassfed grazing school in 2011, while Meyers perpetually bugs them with ideas gleaned from The Stockman Grassfarmer and other journals. We are simultaneously building our pastures and our grassfeeding skills. Initial work includes the building of a herd around some cows and calves that the Bachmanns have moved from their family farm up the road. The first year has seen the conversion of tilled fields to pasture and the development of plans to protect the ponds and streams by providing internal fencing and managed grazing. The grazing company is off to a strong start and has a small number of grassfed steers to offer at the end of the first year of operations.

We feed grass and hay only. We offer mineral supplements but absolutely no hormones and no antibiotics. The cattle are outside all the time and have had minimal health issues.

The beef will be sold direct to the consumer with options on how and where it will be processed. Will deliver to the St. Louis area and will discuss options outside that immediate region. Our farm is just across the river from Illinois, so it is a worthy consideration for those in Southern Illinois as well.
